Rumors & Leads in Glosterwick

Our adventure began in Glosterwick, where a wave of rumors set our course.

  • We hear from keepers of the inn (bla bla bla – didn’t get it sorry)
  • The Ring of Javery Mass might be found on the 5th dungeon level, with a specialist hired to magically locate it.  The Survivors of the Stone (dwarves) are also seeking this artifact.
  • Legends speak of an ancient war in which the theosophs followed the powerful Soth, opposed by Pricus Pulcher 1,200 years ago.
  • From Meric’s Benevolent Brotherhood contact: the Thieves’ Mask of Tettius was borrowed by Menas’ Logathath and lies buried in his tomb.
  • Cerbactos Kalthetos, a wizard, reportedly delved deeper than most adventurers dare.

A Disturbed Stash

Before venturing out, we inspected our hidden stash only to find the lock picked. Curiously, the secret room’s contents were untouched. Taking this as a warning, we grabbed a barrel of water for a later plan involving an irritating wind-tornado.

Halflings and Secrets

After finding the Bronze doors to the wind tornado show locked (irritation increases) we head west past the feather dispenser, we startled a group of halflings. Agoston’s sleep spell felled six instantly. Searching their pockets yielded tick marks, notes, and a map showing a “procession” ending at a southern lake — possibly the same one we had crossed earlier.

We woke the first halfling, Falric, who revealed:

  • Flabotomus has been biding his time, forging alliances with goblins, trolls, and perhaps lizardmen.
  • He’s heard of “Gog” and of wedding preparations.
  • Speaks to us in riddles:  “If Dalton dies, the rest of the body falls.”
  • Goblins number in the hundreds, reproducing faster than beastmen.
  • In the grand plaza’s northwest corner, stairs lie hidden beneath rubble.
    • Current password: “Cup” (changes every few weeks).
    • Our assigned password: “Bigfoot.”

Catacombs & the Cube

We pressed into the catacombs, finding the portcullis still spiked open. In one chamber, a square depression in the floor caught our attention. As we examined it, a gelatinous cube approached from the north. We brought it down with ranged fire, recovering the partially digested remains of a wizard in blue robes. His possessions included:  40 GP, Emerald (230 GP), Garment (90 GP) &Wand with sheep’s head carving

Touching the depression gave off a faint electric pulse. Soon after, we heard the moans of the undead — but our protective feathers kept them at bay. Nearby, a rope ladder descended twenty feet into a fresh-earth-smelling chamber.

The Set Cult Encounter (“no, not that way!”)

Belaying Beloros first, below the rope ladder, flickering torchlight to the south revealed the smell of lizardfolk. Tracks of both booted humans and large clawed feet crisscrossed the floor. Grim scouted ahead and was hailed by a voice from the shadows. “We are humble disciples of seth”  (we found the seth cult.)

Grim talks to the cult followers to win their confidence.  They are looking for recruits apparently.  They tell Grim he is at the entrance to a temple.  They tell him the steps leading down to the South east lead to the temple (“do not mind the lizard who has made a home there”).  Introducing himself as “Black Tooth,” he spoke with followers of Seth, who claimed they were recruiting. They told him the southeast stairs led to their temple, warning about a lizard that had made its home there.

Meric, lurking in the shadows, whispered to Grim to withdraw. Grim agreed aloud, saying he’d meet them in the east — but instead doubled back west, ignoring the cult’s calls.

Ghost on the Stairs

Back in the catacombs, we found a silver holy symbol of Thoth (5 GP) and a secret stairway heading west. Halfway down lay the desiccated body of a wizard in red robes, facing upward. Above him drifted a silver mist.

Attempts to hook the body failed, (Note to team – get grappling hook next time in town). and when Grim approached, the mist solidified into a ghost. Alexos tried to turn it, but failed. He attempts to attack Meric but misses.  During our retreat, Agoston was struck and lost a level. Sanctuary covered our withdrawal, the ghost’s final attack on Beleros missing. We escaped back to Glosterwick to regroup.
