Return to Gosterwick and a Hidden Hoard
The Party’s Time in Town
After the last expedition, the group returned to Gosterwick to rest, resupply, and train.
- Alexos (Cleric) and Agoston (Scholar) successfully leveled up after selling various valuables, notably the vials of Mortality poison.
- Agoston spent his training under the tutelage of Lyssandra Astorion, a Level 7 Scholar and prominent member of the Arcane Practitioners Club.
- Alexos advanced his studies at the Temple of Mitra, under the guidance of Jador the Just, a 9th-level Wiscin Priestess.
Meanwhile, Belaros saw to the party’s logistical needs:
- He purchased a mule, replenished supplies, and hired new muscle—a pair of stout fighter retainers to bolster the party’s strength.
- Rumors swirled that Dalton’s Darlings were still in town, aggressively recruiting adventurers with upfront gold offers and promises of treasure shares.
New Allies and New Missions
Using his newly learned Speak with Animals spell, Alexos finally conversed with the cat rescued from the ruins.
The cat revealed itself to be the former familiar of a long-dead elf mage and spoke of its siblings still trapped deep within the dungeon. It pleaded with the party to find and rescue them.
Back to the Broken Head Inn
After the long trek back to the ruins, the party was attacked en route to the Broken Head Inn by a pack of oversized rats!
Quick action by Agoston, who cast Sleep, dropped six of the eight creatures, allowing the group to finish the rest with minimal injuries.
At the inn, Kronos welcomed them back and shared some news:
- A druid had been causing unrest in the northern woods, forbidding hunting or eating the local wildlife.
- Dalton’s Darlings had thankfully moved on, much to Kronos’ relief, as they had caused plenty of trouble during their stay.
The Discovery Beneath the Statues
Descending into the dungeon once more, the group explored the now-abandoned halfling sector. With the coast clear, they revisited the three statues they had previously studied.Following clues from ancient murals, they moved each statue’s left arm to the forward position.
A deep rumbling answered their actions and a stone panel in the floor slid open, revealing a narrow stairway descending twenty feet. At the bottom, a lever operated the stone panel, allowing them to seal or unseal the passage.
Beyond, they found a heavy door marked with an Ibis—clearly trapped. Belaros carefully disarmed it. Inside was a small antechamber, stark and featureless save for a second door—and its sentinel.
Guarding the inner door was a strange, ibis-headed creature.
- Attempts to placate it with holy symbols failed.
- Its piercing shriek sent the entire group fleeing in terror, unable to resist its magic.
- Upon regrouping with protective spells (Silence and ESP), they realized the creature’s thoughts were utterly alien.
- Agoston suffered a loss of wisdom from trying to discern the thoughts of the alien creature.
- The party chose to engage it directly, defeating the monster after a hard fight.
Beyond the guardian, they found a A 30’ x 15’ chamber with a 20’ high ceiling.
In the center stood a blue marble statue of Thoth. However, that was nothing compared to the sight of the mass of Thousands of gold coins blanketing the floor—far too many to haul out quickly without attracting unwanted attention.
Exercising caution, they hastily filled their pockets with a portion of the treasure and made their way back to the surface.
Loot Recovered This Session:
- 140 Gold Solidi (split evenly among the party, 10gp each)
